Set off on a breathtaking adventure in a 4×4 equipped with a rooftop tent. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Arab culture and admire stunning landscapes.

What makes Oman the ideal travel destination?

In Oman, you can find yourself alone in the heart of the desert. It's encountering a welcoming and deeply moving culture. It's scaling mountain peaks over 3,000 metres high. It's swimming and trekking through canyons. It's observing the immensely rich biodiversity and admiring the splendour of a country that is far too unknown.

During a seven-day road trip, you will traverse majestic mountain ranges, dip your feet in various wadis, sleep in a rooftop tent in the middle of the desert and explore stunning coastal landscapes. We have crafted this unique adventure, taking place from November 2025 to February 2026, aboard a 4x4 with a rooftop tent.

A road trip through Oman

Over the course of a week, you will have the opportunity to cross the impressive Jebel Shams mountains, bathe in the turquoise waters of the wadis, surrender to nature during a night in the heart of the desert and experience Oman's incredible coastline.

You will also have the chance to explore authentic Omani towns such as Nizwa, Sur and Muscat, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and hospitality of this magnificent country.

"Discover the Middle east's best kept secret."

Additional options

With the damage waiver, no deposit is required.

Without the waiver, you’ll need to pay a €1,000 deposit before departure, and you may be liable for up to €3,000 in event of damage.

Travel insurance

Do you want to set off on your trip without any worries? Then consider taking out a personal travel assistance insurance. Different insurance options may be available depending on the country you're coming from, so we suggest checking which policies are offered in your specific situation.

Cancellation insurance

Worried that unforeseen circumstances might prevent you from travelling? With a cancellation insurance, you’ll be covered if you have to cancel your trip.

Food & Drink

When it comes to food during your road trip, you’ll have two main options:

Your 4x4 comes equipped with all the basic cooking gear you need. If you feel like experimenting with local ingredients, you can shop at various spots along the route. We’ve listed our favourite supermarkets in the roadbook.

Craving a taste of the local cuisine? You’ll also find a selection of great restaurants that we’ve handpicked for you and which are conveniently located along your route.

Please note that Oman is a Muslim country, so alcohol is not widely available. Only certain hotels and a few licensed venues serve alcoholic drinks. Why not use this week as an opportunity to discover some of the delicious local non-alcoholic beverages?

Bottled drinking water is available in every supermarket. You’ll also find free drinking water taps outside most mosques – feel free to fill up!

If you haven't selected damage coverage, you will also need to pay a deposit of €1000 shortly before departure (more information in the insurance section).

Is Oman safe?

Oman is probably one of the safest countries in the world. Omanis are incredibly welcoming and will always help you without expecting anything in return. The country has been ranked among the world’s safest many times.

It’s a rich and developed country, but unlike its Gulf neighbors, Oman has embraced a more traditional approach, preserving its authentic architecture instead of building endless skyscrapers. Sanitary conditions are excellent.

Travelling as a woman is also safe. Omani people are very respectful and you will never feel uncomfortable.

Is there support on-site?

Upon arrival in Oman, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partners. They’ll greet you and give you a short briefing before your road trip begins.

During your journey, you’ll find useful information in our app. Shortly before departure, you’ll also be invited to join a Whatsapp group with other participants leaving on the same date. You’ll be able to communicate with each other, and someone from our team will be available in case of emergency.

Yes, you can always cancel your road trip. You can read the cancellation conditions here. You can also rely on the Superflex cancellation conditions until 1 August 2025. You can find more information in the FAQ 'What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?'

Get involved and help look after our amazing planet!

The planet offers us so many incredible things to admire, especially through our travels. But if we want to enjoy it for a long time, we must protect it at all costs. That's why we make extra efforts to reduce the impact of our travels, and you can also reliably contribute to a Greentripper climate project through the booking form, which offsets the CO2 emissions of your mode of transport. By contributing to their certified project “Wildlife Cambodia,” you help protect the beautiful forests and the wildlife they shelter, support local communities, and reduce the CO2 emissions of your trip. If you decide to participate in the project, Travelbase will take on the additional responsibility of reducing your carbon footprint during the trip itself. When you return, you will also receive an official carbon credit certificate.

Do I have to follow the route?

You don’t have to follow the itinerary we provide; you’re travelling semi-independently. We offer a suggested route and recommend places to set up camp, but ultimately, you’re free to do as you wish. Our roadbook and app are packed with suggestions for activities and points of interest — simply choose what inspires you most!
