Discover the hidden gem of the Middle East on a 7-day road trip through Oman
Set off on a breathtaking adventure in a 4×4 equipped with a rooftop tent. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in traditional Arab culture and admire stunning landscapes.
In Oman, you can find yourself alone in the heart of the desert. It's encountering a welcoming and deeply moving culture. It's scaling mountain peaks over 3,000 metres high. It's swimming and trekking through canyons. It's observing the immensely rich biodiversity and admiring the splendour of a country that is far too unknown.
During a seven-day road trip, you will traverse majestic mountain ranges, dip your feet in various wadis, sleep in a rooftop tent in the middle of the desert and explore stunning coastal landscapes. We have crafted this unique adventure, taking place from November 2025 to February 2026, aboard a 4x4 with a rooftop tent.
Over the course of a week, you will have the opportunity to cross the impressive Jebel Shams mountains, bathe in the turquoise waters of the wadis, surrender to nature during a night in the heart of the desert and experience Oman's incredible coastline.
You will also have the chance to explore authentic Omani towns such as Nizwa, Sur and Muscat, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the culture and hospitality of this magnificent country.
This is an overview of your seven-day road trip through Oman. The itinerary will take you to some of the country's most stunning locations. During the day, you can choose which landmarks to visit and how long to spend at each one. At night, we will suggest our favourite places to camp, so you can experience the freedom of wild camping for yourself.
You’ll explore Oman behind the wheel of a Toyota Fortuner (or a similar model), a spacious and reliable 4x4 that can handle any road.
The car is automatic and fully equipped with a rooftop tent and all the camping gear you could possibly need. Everything has been taken care of to ensure a smooth and carefree journey!
You can find more detailed information about the car equipment and insurance in the 'Practical info' section. For now, here are the dimensions of the rooftop tent and double mattress: 2.4m x 1.4m.
During your road trip, your car will be your home!
Every evening, you can park wherever you like and wake up to a new, breathtaking view each day. One of Oman’s greatest perks is the freedom to camp almost anywhere. We’ll share our favourite wild camping spots with you, but you’re also free to pitch your rooftop tent wherever the adventure takes you.
Midway through your trip, you’ll have the option of swapping the tent for a cosy hotel night in Nizwa, Oman’s former capital — the perfect opportunity to recharge in comfort.
To wrap up your journey in style, you’ll spend your final night in afour-star hotel in Muscat, complete with a rooftop pool, spa, and a real bed.
Oman Nomads will take place between 11 November 2025 and 25 February 2026.

The basic price for this trip is €830 per person (excluding flights), based on 2 people per car.
This basic price includes:
You can customise your trip by adding the following optional extras:
Damage waiver
Accidents can happen, which is why we strongly recommend adding a damage waiver to your booking. This costs €37 per day and covers the vehicle, provided that the driver meets the required age and driving experience criteria.
With the damage waiver, no deposit is required.
Without the waiver, you’ll need to pay a €1,000 deposit before departure, and you may be liable for up to €3,000 in event of damage.
Travel insurance
Do you want to set off on your trip without any worries? Then consider taking out a personal travel assistance insurance. Different insurance options may be available depending on the country you're coming from, so we suggest checking which policies are offered in your specific situation.
Cancellation insurance
Worried that unforeseen circumstances might prevent you from travelling? With a cancellation insurance, you’ll be covered if you have to cancel your trip.
When it comes to food during your road trip, you’ll have two main options:
Your 4x4 comes equipped with all the basic cooking gear you need. If you feel like experimenting with local ingredients, you can shop at various spots along the route. We’ve listed our favourite supermarkets in the roadbook.
Craving a taste of the local cuisine? You’ll also find a selection of great restaurants that we’ve handpicked for you and which are conveniently located along your route.
Please note that Oman is a Muslim country, so alcohol is not widely available. Only certain hotels and a few licensed venues serve alcoholic drinks. Why not use this week as an opportunity to discover some of the delicious local non-alcoholic beverages?
Bottled drinking water is available in every supermarket. You’ll also find free drinking water taps outside most mosques – feel free to fill up!
